News: the 9th Crossover Forum Successfully Held in Wuhan and Online

On November 8th, the 9th Crossover Forum was held in Wuhan. A total of 250 experts, scholars and college students gathered at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The forum is themed in Share Heritage: The voice of culture, the power of communication.

On behalf of the municipal government of Wuhan, Mayor Zhou Xianwang extended a warm welcome to the experts and guests attending the forum, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the friends from all walks of life who cared for and supported the protection of Wuhan's cultural heritage.

Professor Guo Yuemei, holder of UNESCO Chair on industrial Heritage and former vice chairman of Wuhan CPPCC, chaired the meeting.
Dr. Ding Yuan, expert member of ICOMOS ISC Shared Built Heritage and deputy chief engineer of CITIC General Institute of Architectural Design and Research, presided over the morning keynote speech section.
Prof. Chang Qing, Academician of The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of The School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, delivered a keynote report entitled "Regeneration: Ways of Revitalizing Heritage".
A special report was delivered by Yang Xiangwei, Director of Wuhan Culture and Tourism Bureau, "Making Cultural Heritage an Important Force in Wuhan's Recovery after the Pandemic".
Dong Zhixiang, chairman of Wuhan Tourism and Sports Group, made a report entitled "Remolding the Historical Features of Old Hankow and Inheriting the Urban Context of Great Wuhan".
Professor Hang Kan, vice President of Shanxi University and former dean of The School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University, delivered a special report entitled “Sharing Heritage: Our Reflection and Practice -- From archaeological Reality to Life Aesthetics”.
Professor Shao Yong from Tongji University, vice Chairman of ICOMOS-CIAV, made a special report entitled “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Urban Development: Practice and Reflecton in Shanghai”.
Professor He Yi of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, delivered the special report “Wuhan: Urban Text and Contemporary Reading”.
At the meeting, Mr. Chen Honghui, vice mayor of Wuhan, issued the Wuhan Initiative on Promoting Cultural Exchanges and Protecting Shared Heritage.
Suzhou section was located in a World Heritage garden -- the "Master-of-Net Garden". This year is also the 40th anniversary of the Suzhou garden that settled in the New York Metropolitan Museum. Dr. Wu Chenyu, director of the "Master-of-Net Garden" management office, Prof. Chen Xi, director of the Building Protection Research Lab of School of Architecture of Soochow University, and director of Heritage Monitoring of WHITRAP (Suzhou) Mr. Shi Chunyu gave speeches on the tradition and modernity of the "Master-of-Net Garden", contemporary heritage value and its interpretation, and thoughts on the protection of cultural heritage value under the pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, both the French and Portuguese sections were online. Mr. Jean-François Lagneau, President of ICOMOS France delivered a speech on the revival of Landmark Buildings. Mr. Alain Di Stefano, President of Plus beaux villages de France, gave a speech on the most beautiful towns in France. Prof. Romeo Carabelli, Expert Member of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Shared Built Heritage talked about the Portugese heritage in Morocco. Dr. Liu Ning, Expert on Ecological Cultural Heritage, Building For Climate (BFC), and Mr. Nicolas Jobard, Head of BFC, shared their experience on natural resources and cultural heritage sharing.

Prof. Soraya Genin, President of ICOMOS Portugal, gave a speech on Sharing and Protecting Cultural Heritage in Times of Pandemic. Prof. Rui Fernandes Póvoas and Prof. Maria Clara do Vale from University of Porto together gave a speech on Historic Centre of Porto: An Experience of Heritage Sharing.
